Revered Swiss watchmaker Vacheron Constantin is yet to reveal everything they are taking to the 2015 SIHH. Nevertheless there is one timepiece they showed at end of last year because it is a “time sensitive” piece. As part of their Metiers d’Art Collection, Vacheron Constantin has unveiled the Legend of the Chinese Zodiac – 2015 Year of the Goat. This year Chinese New Year starts on Feb 19 and Vacheron Constantin is the first watchmaker to reveal their special edition for the festivities.
As with other Metiers d’Art watches, this edition relies on intricate enamel and engraving work. The dial feature a hand engraved goat motif at the center on an enameled background. The leaf motifs you see on the dial takes its inspiration from traditional Chinese iconography and they are engraved directly onto the dial, while the flowers are raised above. The intricate work of the goat and flowers gives the dial a 3D effect. The bronzed and blue colors in different tones are achieved by using the Grand Feu enameling technique.
There are 4 apertures on the dial – two on the top on either side of 12 o’clock shows the hour and minutes, while the two on the bottom indicates the day and the date. Powered by Caliber 2460 G4 automatic, watch offers host of functions. It has a power reserve of 40 hours, 28,800 vph and a water resistance up to 3 bars.
Beautifully crafted Chinese Zodiac – 2015 Year of the Goat watches are available in two versions. One is an 18 karat pink gold case and the other in a platinum 950 case. Both watches are fitted with straps made from alligator Mississippiensis. Each version is limited to just 12 pieces. Pricing on request.
