Manufacture Contemporaine du Temps, or MCT has mastered the art of creating watches with “prism” displays, which is a new way of displaying time in an innovative way. They introduced the new display with their first watch the Sequential One back in 2007. During this year’s Basel World, MCT prepares to unveil an updated version with the same movement and display model but with a round case named the Sequential Two. The watch comes in red gold and white gold variations with a sapphire ring around the case to let light in.
The Sequential Two has a quite a large case at 44.6mm and 14.5mm in order to fit in hour indicators and give them space to move. Inside the case sits an elegant in-house built automatic-winding movement with an 18 karat micro-rotor. Most of the dial is occupied by four large hour marker modules. Each module features five triangular prisms that move into place to display the correct hour. The current hour is indicated by a “C-shaped” arc that rotate 90° anti-clockwise. The minutes are shown by a hand that moves 360° around the dial.
The movement visible through the case-back shows beautiful finishing on the black movement that include screws, mainspring chaton and the red gold weight. Other visible parts include barrel and the balance beating. The Sequential Two stores 40 hours of power and has 2.5 Hz of frequency.
The Sequential Two comes fitted with a beautiful alligator, double stitched strap with an 18 karat gold and titanium, double deployment clasp. Both red and white gold versions are priced at $99,000.
