Elegant Richard Mille RM 037 And RM 01 Timepieces With Gem-Set Carbon Cases

Richard Mille RM 037

Gold, silver, platinum – these are the go-to case material for luxury watchmakers, more so with ladies collections. Times are changing and most manufacturers are slowly moving away from those to high-tech materials like carbon fiber. Richard Mille is already into carbon with their men’s collections and recently introduced two elegant ladies timepieces with cases made from NTPT (North Thin Ply Technology) carbon. Use of NTPT carbon for men’s watches makes sense, as it is a strong and durable material that offer plenty of protection for the movement – perfect for sports watches.

The newly launched Richard Mille RM 037 and RM 01 ladies timepieces are classic examples of high-tech meeting high-jewelry. Both watches sports cases made from NTPT carbon, however, to add a bit of femininity, they covered the case with diamonds. Though setting diamonds directly on gold is a relatively easy job with tools, that is not the case with strong and hard carbon, even for Richard Mille this is uncharted territory. To overcome this difficult task RM used special CNC machines for milling, fitted with diamonds tools. Diamonds are set on hand-polished prongs in red or white gold and then fitted to the carbon case.

Two timepieces also feature a patented stem-crown construction, this helps the movement to keep itself going regardless of bumps, falls and whatever else happens around it. The Richard Mille RM 037 is powered by in-house made skeletonized Caliber CRMA1 automatic movement that offers hours, minutes, adjustable rotor geometry, oversize date, and functions selector and a 50-hour power reserve. The RM 07-01 is powered by the Calibre CRMA2, which has the same functions as the CRMA1, except the date and functions selector.

Visually both the RM 037 and RM 01 looks the same. Though the pricing for timepieces not published on Richard Mille online store, we could expect the RM 037 to cost a fraction bit more than the RM 07-01 because of the missing date and function selector.
