If you live anywhere near country in any country, you can be assured of a rooster waking you up early in the morning. In Chinese culture, rooster’s punctual timekeeping is very much admired along with its other qualities such as hard work, sociability, observant and friendly nature. Joining other luxury watchmakers in celebrating the upcoming Chinese New Year, Ulysse Nardin has just introduced their contribution – the Limited Edition Ulysse Nardin Classico Year of the Rooster.
The colorful rooster on the dial is created using the centuries-old champlevé method of enameling. The time consuming difficult process include bringing sketches to life by carving shapes directly on the dial with a chisel. The hollow design is then get filled with enamel. To achieve its vibrant colors technicians carefully blended different metallic oxides. To complete the process the metallic piece is fired until the enamel melts.
Among current luxury watchmakers, Ulysse Nardin has the most experience working with champlevé method, especially in the last 25 years. Unlike others, they actually have a full-time staff working on this centuries old art at their Donzé Cadrans subsidiary. And that is why over the years they managed to release timepieces with beautiful enamel artwork.
The Ulysse Nardin Classico Year of the Rooster with an 18 karat rose gold case is powered by in-house made UN-815 automatic movement with COSC certification. No. 8 holds a special place in Chinese culture, it stands for among others wealth, fortune, and prosperity – because of that the Classico Rooster is offered in a limited edition of 88 pieces.
