The limited edition Hermès Dressage L’heure Masquée is a unique timepiece that hark back to a time long gone. At a glance you would think the watch is missing a hand, that is not the case, it is designed after pre-17th century pocket watches with single hands. However, it features a couple of hidden functions that operates with the push of a crown.

The L’heure Masquée follows the same “perception of time” mode Hermès introduced with the Cape Cod Grand Hours collection, which creates the illusion of “suspended time” by slowing or speeding the movement of the hour hand. For the Masquée (means ‘hidden’ in French,) Hermès has further modified the perception of time function by adding “veiling time”, here wearer have to look for the hidden hour hand when necessary.

Hidden underneath the teasing minute hand and taking a piggyback ride is the hour hand. Hour hand appears to show the time as we used to when the crown is pushed slightly, as soon as the crown is released it disappears back under the minute hand. Minute hand meanwhile continually circles the dial every 60 minutes.

Also hidden is the second time zone display. When the crown is pushed to display hour hand, second time zone appears simultaneously from its hiding place under the GMT window located at 6 o’clock to display time.

The opaline dial decorated with vertical guilloché motif in the center features large Arabic numerals, and hands in colors matching the case. Hands are coated with SuperlumiNova, and Hermès Paris and L’heure Masquée are stamped as well on the dial.
