Jaeger-LeCoultre has unveiled a companion for their Duomètre Unique Travel Time introduced at the SIHH 2013. Newest is a pink gold version and reportedly the first world-time watch enabling to-the-minute adjustment of the second time zone. This feature allows travelers to adjust time accurately for the second time zone on all countries, in all time zones regardless of the time difference including for countries on non-standard time zones.
The grained silver toned dial features a Dual-Wing movement system for two subdials. The first at 2 o’clock is for the local time and the second at 10 o’clock displays the travel time. Precision timing of the watch is achieved by having two separate barrels for each sub-dial though they share one and the same escapement. The third dial at 6 o’clock, the globe shows a world map bordered by the time-zone indications and the day/night ring. The globe is synchronized with travel time.
“The single crown is used to adjust the local time in position 2 and the travel time in position 1, and, as well as to wind the mainsprings when in position 0. Once both time zones are synchronized, the traveler can simply use the push-pieces at 8 and 10 o’clock to adjust the jumping hours in the left sub dial according to the destination. And in case of a non-standard time zone, the minutes can be adjusted separately using the crown in position 1.”
Powered by the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 383 mechanical manually-wound movement, the barrel of each sub-dial has a 50-hour power reserve. One crown serves both barrels for winding. A clockwise wound the travel-time barrel and the anti-clockwise wound the local time. The handcrafted movement is 34.3 mm thick and made of 498 components. It has a frequency of 4 Hz.
The JLC Calibre 383 movement visible through the sapphire crystal case back, reveal its carefully crafted decorations. Its bridges and gear trains are hand-chamfered and feature polished sinks. Also hand-chamfered are the wheels, they are then decorated with polished sinks and snailed or softened. Inspiration for these decorations come from the brand’s pocket-watches. The names of the cities corresponding to 24 world time zones are engraved on the back.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre Unique Travel Time encased in a 42 mm pink gold case has polished lugs and a satin-brushed caseband. It is water resistant up to 165 feet. Fitted with a black alligator leather strap and matching pink gold pin buckle, the Duomètre Unique Travel by Jaeger-LeCoultre is a perfect addition to the Duomètre collection. Pricing on request.
