The latest company to join Chinese New Year celebrations is Swiss watch and high jewelry maker Chopard. Special edition LUC XP watch with a Japanese lacquered horse on the dial is unveiled to celebrate the Year of the Horse 2014.
The ultra-thin watch is part of Chopard’s Urushi collection that uses the lacquered, or Maki-e technique for decorative lacquer. The motif on the dial is created by hand applying gold powder, gold foil, and mother-of-pearl. It features Gilt dauphine-styled 18 karat rose gold hands.
The 18 karat rose gold case measuring 39.5 mm wide and 6.98 mm high is powered by a LUC Caliber 96.17-L automatic ultra-thin movement with a micro-rotor. The movement boasts a power reserve of 65 hours and water resistant up to 100 feet.
The Chopard LUC XP Urushi Year of the Horse is fitted with a black alligator leather strap with matching rose gold pin buckle, it is presented in an octagonal shaped Urushi decorated box. Though the price not announced yet, it is expected to be on par with other Urushi models around $25,000.
