The Clifton Retrograde Date is Baume & Mercier’s latest addition to the Clifton collection. The simple yet elegant watch features retrograde style date and power reserve functions. The watchmaker notes this watch is designed especially for the big-city gentleman than for others – keep that in mind if you are a gentleman farmer from the small city of Sioux Falls in South Dakota and about to spend $5,700 on the Clifton Retrograde Date.
The 43 mm case made of steel, houses a silver-colored dial with a sun satin-finish. The dial features gilt dauphine hands and hour markers, as well as blued seconds numerals and hands on sub-dials. Day sub-dial is located on the left side while the retrograde date function is on the right. Power-reserve indicator is located at six o’clock.
Powered by the Swiss made automatic self-wound Soprod 9094 caliber movement, it boasts a power reserve of 42 hours and an operating frequency of 4 Hz. The movement also powers the retrograde function of the watch. Retrograde function works with blue hand on the date arc jumping back to the beginning of the arc when it reaches the end of the month and then start the new month. The movement though not extravagantly decorated is visible through the sapphire crystal case-back.
Completing the timepiece is its brown alligator leather strap with adjustable triple folding buckle with security push pieces.
