Swiss Alps, skiing and a fancy chalet – these are the stuff that dreams are made of. Little known ski resort town Andermatt in Switzerland is now an in demand destination thanks to the recently opened five-star hotel The Chedi Andermatt. Hidden among the peaks of Saint-Gotthard Massif and now owned by Asia-based GMH Hotels, it consists of 105 rooms including the much talked about opulent Furka suite that costs £5,275 or about $8,200 per night.

Designed by Belgian-born architect Jean-Michel Gathy with an Asian-Alpine twist, Chedi Andermatt’s consists of high-ceilinged series of four buildings with fur-lined sofas, glittering surfaces and lengthy balconies. A wine and cigar library and a walk-in humidor cheese room can be found in downstairs. Other perks offered include pick up from slopes in Audis and a limo service. Expansion plans for next year include opening of two restaurants and an ice rink.

The Furka suite with 3,552 square feet of space comes with luxury amenities such as a personal spa with steam bath, sauna and a Jacuzzi. The suite has room for six people. Regular rooms costs £420 ($510) per night and feature handmade Hastens beds from Sweden as well as cashmere shawls to keep you warm while you relax on the balcony.

Almost everything in a room from lighting, heating, curtains to gas fires are controlled by iPads. Every bathroom comes stocked with Aqua di Parma toiletries. The Chedi Andermatt also has a ski-in living room, an outdoor hydrothermal bath, a 115-foot-long indoor heated pool and many a treatment rooms. For indoor entertainment there is a piano in the lobby. For ski enthusiast, a ski butler is on hand to fit their skis, get their poles and warm their boots.

There are many an outdoor activity to enjoy during the summer too. There is a 28-hole golf course as well as cycling and hike paths, horse riding, fishing and tennis to enjoy. Surrounded by deep canyons, wild waterfalls and quiet mountain lakes, Andermatt also has plenty of restaurants that offer food for decent prices.

Best thing is Chedi Andermatt is just a 90 minute drive from Zurich. From Milan it’s a two hour drive and from Munich and Stuttgart four hours. It is accessible via three alpine passes that includes the Oberalp Pass to the east, the St. Gotthard Pass in the south and the Furka Pass in the west.
