What’s not to like about Qatar Airways, when you and them are loaded. Airline’s big plans for next year includes an introduction of a new seat to its business class cabins. Last year Qatar introduced new first class cabins exclusively on A380 with luxuries such as private dining, Caviar and Macarons and Dior kits. They also introduced an all-business flight between London and Doha. New seats on business class will further enhance Qatar’s reputation as a top class airline.
There is lot of competition between Gulf-based airlines. Abu Dhabi-based Etihad last year introduced the ultra-luxury “The Residence” suites for their premium customers, while Dubai-based Emirates has the most name recognition worldwide. Qatar Airways CEO, Akbar Al Baker threw the first punch when he said “We always raise the bar for our dear friends around the area to try to copy us. We will have a double bed with only a business-class fare.” So we’ll wait and see how the other two reacts to this challenge.
According to Al Baker the seat is more than just a seat, it is also a double bed. All their aircrafts with business class are on line to receive this upgrade. Developed specially for them, Qatar will have proprietary rights for it. Al Baker has high expectations for the seat “when you introduce that into the aero plane, I really don’t think you need a first class,” he said.
Recently opened Hamad International Airport in Doha will make some of their best services available for economy passengers, added Al Baker. Free perks include Airport Nodes, child-play areas, family and sleeping areas, a television room, internet zone with free access to Apple computers and charging plugs. A major transit hub for travels between east and the west, Hamad airport is a place where passengers spend hours waiting for connecting flights. For those passengers airport offers extras such as a spa, swimming pool, squash courts and a gym.
