Etihad Airways has updated their artisanal amenity kits offered for guests traveling on long-haul services to and from its home base Abu Dhabi. The limited edition new kits are created by Sougha, a social enterprise initiative launched by the Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development to help promote and preserve Emirati traditions as well as local craft industries.
Offered in Diamond First, Pearl Business, and Coral Economy cabins, the amenity bags feature elaborate designs of Sadou, a centuries-old weaving-craft in Abu Dhabi. These colorful patterns are traditionally used on blankets, cushions and Bedouin tents.
By partnering with Sougha, Etihad Airways is increasing their efforts to help find new markets for the local artisans in foreign lands. Etihad president James Hogan said, “These new kits not only enhance the Etihad guest experience but are also a souvenir of the cultural traditions of this country and a way of supporting local craftsmanship.”
Sougha, which means “a traveler’s gift” in Arabic, is a perfect gift from the airline to its passengers. Each Diamond First Class kit arrive packed with exclusive products by luxury New York brand Le Labo, while Pearl Business Class kits will feature all-natural products by Athens-based Korres.
An exclusive range of Sougha products is also available in Etihad Airways in-flight magazine for purchase.
