We are constantly looking for more and more exotic places to travel to. Places where not many have been, places that not many have seen, something out of this world. And what could be more out of the world than Aurora Station – a luxury hotel in SPACE! Aurora Station is the first ever luxury hotel that is not on Earth and was announced recently at Space 2.0 Summit in San Jose, California. This one is for all you travelers that just can’t get enough of a thrill on this planet and need to be shot out into space as long as you can afford almost $800,000 per night!
Aurora Station is being brought to life by Orion Span and is named after the whimsical natural light show that makes the skies near the polar regions glow. The Aurora Station project will allow six people (including two crew members) to enjoy first-class accommodation above Earth for a course of 12 days as they journey amidst the stars starting at $9.5 million per guest. Frank Bunger, chief executive officer and founder of developer Orion Span, said the hotel would open in 2021 and host its first guests in 2022 and his goal was to make space “accessible to all” once they complete a 3-month training regime in Houston, Texas.
The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will allow guests to experience the thrills of zero gravity while they stare at breathtaking views of the planet below. Guests will be able to see an average of 16 sunrises and sunsets in a day and that too from the best seat in the house! Like all cruises have an itinerary of activities, guests at the Aurora station will also be taking part in experiments like growing food in the orbit and trying state-of-the-art virtual reality technology on the holodeck. Aurora station will also have hi-speed WiFi so guests can continue making stories for the ‘gram or taking selfies for Snap – one thing is guaranteed, no one on the planet will have your geotag filter!
For all those adrenaline-fuelled wanderers who can’t wait, you can deposit $80,000 online in a bid to secure your place. Bunger points out that although Aurora Station is mean to be a turnkey space destination its purpose is to build and sustain human communities outside Earth, not just provide a unique holiday destination. “We will offer full charters to space agencies who are looking to achieve human spaceflight in orbit for a fraction of the cost – and only pay for what they use. We will support zero-gravity research, as well as in space manufacturing. Our architecture is such that we can easily add capacity, enabling us to grow with market demand like a city growing skyward on Earth” said an ambitious Bunger.
So if you ever dreamed to walk amongst the stars and watch sunsets from the sky – this is your chance as long as you have $9.5 million and are an astr0 level sport to go on this holiday mission!
