As far as amusement parks in Japan go, they had Fuji-Q Highland way before Disneyland arrived in Tokyo in 1983. The old dog Fuji-Q recently found oa new trick to attract more visitors to their fun park – pet owners, to be more specific – dog lovers and their precious big and small canines. Located in the foothills of the namesake, Fuji Mountain, the Fuji-Q now offers a deal equivalent to kids discounts – pet entrance is priced same as for kids at ¥900 (about $8). After all, for many pet owners, their pooches are like kids and spoil them as such.
For safety reasons, not all areas are open to dogs. It can’t ride the Great Gatagoto Adventure indoor rail or watch movies at Thomas Land 3D Theater at the Thomas Land. They are also not allowed to roller coasters. But, they can ride their hearts out on Ferris wheel (¥500); paddle boats, merry-go-round, and spinning teacups (¥400 each) with the entire family. For the best four-legged swimmers in the family, there is a doggy pool to cool down when Fujiyoshida region gets too hot in the summer.
There are few written/unwritten Fuji-Q rules about bringing your puppy amusement park day – keep it on a leash at all times, carry a bottle of water and most importantly clean up after your lovely dog. And after you agree to these conditions you, the kids and the dog are in for serious/happy fun times (as you can see from images).
Located in the Yamanashi Prefecture in Chūbu region, Fuji-Q Highland’s Fujiyama roller coaster once held the record for world’s tallest roller coaster at 79 meters. One of the highlights of this roller coaster ride is the Mount Fuji views it offers just before its deep drop. The other is its 130/kmh speed, which makes it the 10th fastest roller coaster ride in the world. Fuji-Q is also home to two famous haunted attractions – the Haunted Hospital, the world’s second largest haunted attraction, and the recently built Hopeless Fortress. The park also had a part in reality TV series, the Amazing Race in 2006, the final 3 teams came here looking for clues to their next destination.
All in all, there is something for everyone at Fuji-Q – regardless of age or pedigree. You just have to find activities without making a bark about it. Find more information on Fuji-Q Highland offers here.
