For a collector of luxury items that include watches, ancient artifacts and antiques, priceless jewelry and even guns – then a high-security safe is a must. German company BUBEN&ZORWEG, the maker of high-end safes have a new collection just for art enthusiasts. No – it is not a safe to store paintings (maybe a small Van Gough) but one decorated with art. Why wrap safe’s exterior walls in luxurious leather, when you can make it a canvass?Unveiled during the Baselworld 2017, the BUBEN&ZORWEG Art Safe Collection is a unique venture that hopes to connect collectors with their favorite artists to create their own BUBEN&ZORWEG Masterpiece.
For the first piece of the collection, they have partnered with renowned Chinese artist Burigude – a follower of Chinese master-painter Tao-Chi during the late Ming Dynasty (1641-1720). Two sides and front of the safe features Burigard’s red and black brushstroke artwork. A work of abstract in simplest form, he explained his work as “the stroke depicts nothing, but rather expresses solace, joy, directness, and trust.”
After a stop at Salone del Mobile in Milan on its way from Baselworld 2017, the unique art piece is now on its way to the Art Beijing exhibition, where it is scheduled to be auctioned for charity. Burigude and BUBEN&ZORWEG agreed to donate all proceeds to the UNESCO-backed non-profit organization “Forest China” that plants trees as a natural barrier against air pollution.
