Tis’ the season for Bats and Batmobiles. A couple of weeks ago we had BatKid running around in San Francisco, this week have a real replica Batmobile for sale. All this even before Ben Affleck put his Bat suit on!
Built by Indiana-based Fiberglass Freaks, this is a replica of the Batmobile from the Batman TV series of mid 60’s. The highlight of this crime fighting replica is its flamethrower-equipped exhaust with its own Bat fire extinguisher. Though using flamethrower while driving probably not street-legal.
Mirroring the original 1955 Lincoln Futura Batmobile, replica features the unique push-down door handle, bubble-canopy windshields, and threatening fins and facade. Other Bat bells and whistles include a fully operational Bluetooth Batphone, aluminum roll top dashboard doors, a rotating red beacon and correctly labeled knobs and buttons.
Few decoration-only items fitted include the Batscope with LCD display, Bat-beam ray antenna, 180-degree Emergency Bat-Turn lever and empty rear parachute packs. But you get those real Bat rims!
It took the 10-man team at Fiberglass Freaks almost a year to complete this pitch-perfect Batmobile. Built on a Lincoln chassis replica comes powered by a 430 hp, 380 Blueprint Crate engine and TH350 automatic transmission. Even though not part of the original vehicle, this street-legal version comes with clamp-on side mirrors and a rearview video camera. Batmobile is up for sale via Hammacher Schlemmer with a price tag of $200,000.
