One of London’s icons, a black Hackney cab is up for sale at Hammacher Schlemmer. Made in the 1980’s, the Fairway black cab is fully reconditioned and upgraded with modern comforts.
The Hackney carriage now features a 2.7 liter Nissan diesel engine that allows it to drive at U.S. speed limits. Boasting its reliability and performance on modern roads are the three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes. Upgraded passenger comforts include rich leather upholstery and air conditioning. Other notable upgrades include tinted glass, an extra front seat, chrome fenders and rear parking sensor.
The roomy cab, designed with practicality in mind provides seating for the driver and six passengers comfortably with a three-seat rear bench and two rear-facing fold-down seats. It carries a price tag of $40,000. If you are to buy the Hackney cab for personal use, you’ll join Prince Philip, Stephen Fry and oil millionaire Nubar Gulbenkian (his is fitted with a Rolls-Royce engine!) as one of the few on this earth to do it.
