BMW Releases BMW M5 Horse Edition And BMW M6 Gran Coupe Horse Edition

BMW - Year of the Horse - 1

With Year of the Horse celebrations are in full swing around the world, BMW has released their special edition cars to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Special editions of BMW M5 and BMW M6 with slight design modifications are available for customers in China. Named the BMW M5 Horse Edition and BMW M6 Gran Coupe Horse Edition, cars feature the Chinese letter for Horse embroidered and stitched to headrests. Other than this change, specifications remain the same to the optional Competition Packages of BMW M5 and BMW M6 Gran Coupe.

The new BMW Competition Package has an engine that produces more power than the standard version. Its 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 mated to a 7-speed M dual clutch gearbox gives 567 hp compares to 552 hp of the standard versions of BMW M5 and BMW M6. This additional power allows the Horse Edition cars to accelerate 1 second faster from 0 to 62 mph and 2 seconds faster from 0 to 124 mph. Though not awe-inspiring these are still good improvements. Other minor changes include new coil springs and dampers, stiffer anti-sway bars, revised front bushings, lowered suspension by 10mm, as well as a few tweaks to the Active M Differential and rack-and-pinion steering. Exteriors are painted red with interior upholstery in black leather.

Now to the pricing, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe Horse Edition will have only six units produced and carry a price sticker of 2.77 million yuan (approx. $457,000) and that’s a lot. In the US the same car without Horse motif sells for $115,000. The BMW M5 Horse Edition with a 30 unit special edition production is priced at 1.98 million yuan (approx. $326,000).
