This is something to look forward to – next year – for a Roman Holiday. Two iconic European brands founded in 1946, collaborated to create a limited-edition sought-after item to combine their expertise. The Vespa 946 Christian Dior scooter is designed to capture the “freedom of movement and expression Dior and Vespa hold so dear”.
Designed by Dior’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, it features a retro scooter decorated with blue and white Dior Oblique motifs on the seat. Additionally, the words Christina Dior and oblique design are painted on the side of the Vespa, and a gold-plated CD logo under the seat. That is not all, there are three matching accessories as well – a helmet, luggage box, and Dior’s Tote Book.
This project is all the more important to Italian-born Chiuri. “I was very excited about this project with Vespa,” she said. “For me, Vespa is linked to my city, Rome. It’s linked to the freedom to move around the city with ease, like in the film Roman Holiday, which has left that extraordinary image of Audrey Hepburn clinging to Gregory Peck on a Vespa forever etched in our collective memory.”
She continued “I have so many happy memories starring a Vespa. It’s how my husband and I used to get around Rome and go to the seaside in Fregene. It’s a symbol of Italian-ness that is intricately linked to my personal history, and it’s now part of my professional life at Dior.”
Next summer it will be your turn to do your version of Roman Holiday. Or explore charming small Italian villages on a Vespa 946 Christian Dior special edition scooter.
