With LA Motor Show opening only a couple of days away, Jeep has released photos and information for the newest member of Jeep Wrangler family, a special edition Willy. The all new 2014 Jeep Wrangler Willys Wheeler Edition pays tribute to the original Willys with a modern off-road twist.
This is the vehicle that won the World War II for the allies. But this is nowhere being a Dad’s Army Jeep.
Jeep, for their own good, decided not to go too nostalgic with the Willy by adding fully functionalities of modern off-road vehicles. Off-road features a GI would’ve imagined of having driven in the Normandy beaches are added to the new Willys. They include Dana 44 rear axle with a limited-slip rear differential and 3.73 gears, BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires on black 17-inch wheels and rock rails. It also comes with the Jeep Trail Rated Kit that contains a D-Ring, tow strap, and gloves in a Jeep-branded bag.
The Wrangler Sport based Willys exterior features a gloss black grille with black Jeep badge, gloss black front and rear bumper appliques, historic satin black “4 Wheel Drive” rear tailgate decal and “Willys” hood decals and unique high-gloss black 17-inch aluminum wheels. A Sunrider soft top and deep-tint sunscreen rear windows are standard for the Willys.
Under the hood Willys feature 3.6 liter Pentastar V-6 engine that produces 285 horsepower and 260 ft-lb of torque, more than enough to take you off-roading in Mojave desert.
Toledo, Ohio-built Jeep Willys will go on sale in the US early next year. Available in two models – $25,795 will get you a two-door and $29,595 a four-door model.
