The Focal Utopia by Tournaire headphones promises to bring the best acoustics to your ears – for a price. Labeled as the world’s most expensive, the headphone pair costs a whopping $110,000 (€100,000) and for an additional $11,000 (€10,000) you can add a dedicated sound – giving it a total price tag of $121,000 (€110,000). Two French brands from different fields got together to design this very expensive and glamorous headphone for audiophiles around the world – Focal with their audio technology and Tournaire in jewelry.
According to Focal, it took them 35 years to develop the audio and design technology that went on to create the Utopia. The final results offer audio with exceptional clarity and neutrality. As for the design, it has a design that you can label a first in the world – open backed full-range speaker driver with pure Beryllium ’M’-shaped domes. This help headphones avoid any crossover or passive filtering process and resulting in a 50kHz frequency response.
Anybody forking out $121,000 for a pair of headphones expect a bit more than new technology and design. For that price Utopia also offer style and comfort. As you can see from the images, the extravagant headphones are decorated with 18 karat gold and 6.5 carats of dazzling diamonds. Other premium materials used include pure lambskin leather for ear cushions and carbon fiber. The collection in its entirety is handcrafted at Tournaire workshops.
“Utopia by Tournaire is the fruit of a unique partnership – the perfect symbiosis of Focal, a manufacturer of high-fidelity speaker drivers and loudspeakers for more than 35 years,” says Sébastien Dumas, Focal brand and communication director.
While buying a pair of premium Focal Utopia by Tournaire for a hefty price, you are also contributing to a good cause. A portion of the proceeds will go to the P’tit Louis association, a charity devoted to Louis Biscini. The eight-year-old suffers from rare degenerative disease called spinal muscular atrophy type 1.
