Wes Anderson Presents “How to Make Mendl’s Courtesan au Chocolat”

If you’ve not heard anything about Wes Anderson’s new movie The Grand Budapest Hotel, you have not kept your movie knowledge up to date. A wonderfully delightful movie, it set a record couple of weeks ago as the highest-grossing limited- release opening weekend in movie history by raking in $800,000 in just four showings. One of the stars in the movie is the Courtesan au Chocolat, a cream-filled pastry made by the fictional baker Herr Mendl.

For the movie, according to producer Jeremy Dawson, they asked Anemone Müller of Cafe CaRe, a local baker in Gorlitz, Germany to make a pastry similar to a classic religieuse pastry. Müller then worked with Anderson to get the final look he wanted. Pastry plays an important role in the movie, to acknowledge that Anderson has released a very short movie named “How to Make Mendl’s Courtesan au Chocolat”. Watch the three-minute delight below on a lazy afternoon to horn your pastry making skills.
