The John Walker & Sons Private Collection is Diageo’s latest addition to its portfolio of Johnnie Walker blended Scotch whisky. Part of ultra-deluxe range from Johnnie Walker, the collection is a creation of master blender Jim Beveridge. Diageo also announced 2014 collection is the first in a series of annual limited edition releases under John Walker & Sons Blended label.
The 2014 edition is limited to just 8,888 decanters for worldwide release with the first batch being delivered to DFS Group store in Changi Airport in Singapore. To celebrate the travel-retail launch in Asia/Pacific region, Beveridge has personally signed 10 decanters that bear lucky numbers 1888, 2888, 3333, 3888, 4888, 5555, 5888, 6666, 6888 and 7888. The official launch for other parts of the region is scheduled for next month.
Beveridge has selected 29 of his private reserves, tailor-made blends and experimental casks to create this year’s edition. The unique smoky flavour of the blend has characteristics from three celebrated Scotish whisky regions – bold and peaty Islay smoke, fresh maritime Island smoke, and a sweet, subtle Highland smokiness.
“We recognise the high level of appreciation for ultra deluxe blended Scotch whisky in Asia travel retail and this launch underlines our ongoing commitment to innovation and premiumisation,” said Steve White, global marketing director of Diageo global travel and the Middle East.
The John Walker & Sons Private Collection is presented in a dark blue glass John Walker & Sons decanter to capture the smoky characters that define this blend. Price is set at £436.45 ($750).
