Ever since luxury hotels started to serve fancy afternoon tea, serving tea itself was never a requirement. They have without batting an eye substituted Ceylon Tea and Assam Tea with French champagne. Now we have a new twist to afternoon tea, where even champagne is served only at request. Introduced by the Stafford London, Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea will be launched at their American Bar on April 1st. Their choice of beverages include draft beer, whiskeys and gin and tonics. Don’t worry, they will serve tea, coffee and champagne on request.
An afternoon tea named Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea, should show up with some iron man food not just cucumber sandwiches, scones and pink fancy cakes. To this end Chef Carlos Martinez chose some real heavy stuff and his menu include mini Wagyu beef burgers on brioche, slow-cooked sirloin on ciabatta, smoked salmon on brown bread and baby spinach quiche. As for sweets they are serving rum brulee, chocolate fondant and red berries cheesecake.
The 17th century built Stafford hotel, located near St. James’s Palace (London residence of Princesses Anne, Beatrice and Eugenie) and Piccadilly tube station plan to serve tea daily between 3pm and 6pm. Even though it is named Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea, ladies are very well welcome. The tea will cost $55 per person regardless of gender. For reservations email or call +44 207 493 0111.
