For small businesses staying one step ahead of the competition is a tough business. Creative companies, however, find ways to draw attention and remain in the spotlight. A favorite tactic among those in the food industry is to create a ‘most expensive’ version of their simplest of menu items. This, this, this and this, all created by businesses to generate some buzz. Latest addition to this list is an edible gold flake covered truffle created by Mozart’s, a bakery in Columbus, OH. If it is covered in gold it must come with a luxury price tag, made-to-order treat costs $250.

Austria’s Mozartkugel inspired fancy truffle’s list of ingredients to include a small batch of bourbon supplied by the local Watershed Distillery and Valrhona 70%-cocoa chocolate from France. The chocolate ball is then wrapped in Paolo Angeletti 23 karat edible gold flake imported from Italy.

Mozart’s owner Anand Saha told his local newspaper Columbus Business Journal, “Everyone that knows Mozart’s, that knows me, knows I like a challenge. I’d been wanting to do something unique. It’s important to remain in the spotlight.”

Introduced on Wednesday, Mozart’s haven’t received any orders for the gold flake covered chocolate truffle yet. If you hurry up, you could be the first to order and at the same time help a good course. For a limited period, 100% of the sales proceeds from the extravagant truffle would go to a charity of purchaser’s choice.
