If you are the type of fashionista who walks around in shoes decorated with pins and tree leaves, Vans have worked together with a group of talented artists and designers, including Marc Jacobs to create a unique SS2017 collection. This Vans x Marc Jacobs collaboration gives us a never before seen slip-on collection, the familiar silhouette with newfangled designs that looks more like an art project than a fashion collection. Good thing is, it retained its canvas construction. The series feature bright multi-colored designs and custom made motifs.
There are a couple of contributions from Brooklyn-based Ava Nirui, one of fashion world’s current favorite collaborators. Contributions also came from the likes of Milk, Jazzelle Zanaughtti, Jin Soon Choi, Kamei Toru, Anotani Masaho, Roehreke Niky and a few more. Each person created his/her version of the sneaker, which added a lot of personality to the collection.
Compared to others, Marc Jacob’s version is a much-subdued affair, it features red, white and black artwork that somewhat looks like an octopus. The collection is a limited edition of 125 pairs, and getting them is not easy. According to Marc Jacobs’s press release, they are available for purchase only in Japan and New York City stores. For those who can’t make it to Japan and NYC in a hurry, the company held an online competition to give away 10 pairs featuring illustrations by artist Julie Verhoeven. The Vans x Marc Jacobs collection is scheduled to be released on Friday, June 16. Since this is more or less an art project, each pair comes with a Marc Jacobs x Sharpie set to further customize your shoe. Check out the galleries of the collection above and below.
