Two things we know about Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Style Director Kim Jones, he loves to travel and he loves his travels to the Indian subcontinent. His creations for entire FW2013 men’s collection was one big love affair with the Himalayan region. For Spring Summer 2015 collection he returned to the region and found design inspirations in the northwestern Indian state of Rajasthan. The collection offers a timeless and sophisticated look for summer.
Jones explained his collection, “While last season’s collection was about looking down at the earth from above, this time we’ve looking up at the stars.” During his travels in Rajasthan, Jones discovered Maharajah Sawai Jai Singh, who built and ruled the city of Jaipur, India’s Pink City. Jai Singh also constructed the 18th-century astronomical observatory gardens called Jantar Mantars. Observatories provided all the inspirations Jones needed for the collection to look up at the stars.
As for the collection, Shisha mirrored embroidery with LV engraved mirrors appears on flight jackets, a sports hybrid that can be worn with high-waist military shorts or with an all-in-one military flight suit. Jackets and pants with LV Karakoram motif in zigzags, tailoring colorations from 70’s India that reminds everyone of Amitabh Bachchan and shirts inspired by Indian turban fabrics and embroidery motifs are all part of the collection. Also part of the collection are white cotton/silk shirts in Chikan style with patchwork jacquard, and silk organza short sleeve shirts with Karakoram motifs. Colors in the collection showcase blue, shocking pink and bright orange as well as neutrals navy, sage green, and beige.
Three new bags featuring LV Monogram are also part of the collection, they include a doctor bag, soft weekend suitcase and vertical tote with Monogram straps and tags. Made from water-repellent leather, the new V bag collection is designed with big city dwellers on the mind. The multi-purpose bag is the perfect accessory for all daily activities, from the gym to the office. Sawai Ram Singh II inspired crossed bridge glasses and footwear featuring alligator leather sneakers in simple black or white completes the Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2015 collection.
