Diamond Studded Boots From A.F. Vandevorst Will Cost You $3.2 Million

These diamond studded boots from A.F. Vandevorst are not made for walking. Yet, they managed to travel to Hong Kong for the Hong Kong Business Design Week. Blinged out in full, the boots are a result of a collaboration between two Antwerp-based companies – diamond and jewelry company Diarough/UNI-Design and the fashion house A.F. Vandevorst. Diarough Design has supplied all the diamonds for the project.

Calfskin leather boots with an intricate paisley pattern are set with 54,000 colored diamonds in cognac, brown, yellow and gray, while Vandevorst’s cross-shaped logo is made from rare reddish-pink diamonds. Diamonds on both boots weigh a total of 1550 karats. Size 39 boots also feature 4,753 grams of gold.

The boots will be sold at the exhibition if there are any takers for a princely sum of $3.2 million. Designers claim these boots are made for walking, just make sure you leave casa with a couple of bodyguards.

The process from start to finish including selecting and setting diamonds, give or take a few took 30,000 hours, according to the company. Belgium especially Antwerp is the center of diamond industry, 95% of world’s diamonds end up in Antwerp for cutting and certification. So, it was important for them that the diamond industry put their best foot at the Hong Kong Design Week – me thinks they did alright.

In Hong Kong to shore up support for Belgium diamond, fashion and other industries, and for the unveiling of fancy boots were Queen Mathilde of Belgium and Kris Peeters, minister-president of the government of Flanders.
