Humphrey Bogart’s 1940 Buick Phaeton From “Casablanca” Sold For $461,000

The iconic Buick Phaeton, Humphrey Bogart drove in the movie Casablanca was sold for $461,000. Just one of 230 limited edition Buick Model 81C trunkback Convertible Phaetons built in 1940. The car was part of the movie memorabilia auction held in New York today by Bonhams’ billed “What Dreams Are Made Of: A Century Of Movie Magic.” The car had a pre-auction estimate of $450,000 – $500,000 from the auction house, sold for $461,000 including the buyer’s premium.

For a car that was in service until 1970, it has only 42,000 miles. Aztec Brown car has an 8 cylinder engine and a 3-speed manual transmission. Mechanical restoration work was done in the 1990’s with new wiring, tires with side mounts and the standard shift in the steering wheel. The car was featured in another of Bogart classics, High Sierra.
